Flying Monkey Costumes for Kids
Wizard of Oz Flying Monkey Child Costume
In the first Oz novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the flying monkeys aren’t loyal to the Wicked Witch of the West by choice; she has control over them because of an enchanted Golden Cap she’s in possession of. This Halloween, your kids can roam free and clear in a fun flying monkey costume in the spirit of The Wizard of Oz. The costume includes a grey hooded jumpsuit with a hood and attached hat, with fringed trimming along the jumpsuit’s arms and legs. The costume also includes a winged jacket, which features a jagged pattern of blue, red, and white. The wings are attached to the jacket, and they’re small enough that they won’t easily catch on anything and they won’t hinder your child’s movements. It’s a comfortable and flexible costume that’s perfect for trick-or-treating in the sky or on the ground.

Flying Monkey Costume Accessories
If your kid’s flying monkey costume of choice doesn’t come with wings—or if you simply want a pair that makes a bigger statement—these impressive wings will do the trick. They’re available in both white and black (for a more sinister look, and one that’s truer to the movie look, we recommend going with black), and they’re made of real feathers. They’re held on with elastic shoulder straps that are snug but not constricting, and the accessory as a whole measures about 17.5 inches high by 21.5 inches wide. It’s the perfect addition to your child’s flying monkey costume, and a great accessory to hold onto for future Halloween costumes.

Wizard of Oz Flying Monkey Deluxe Overhead Latex Mask
Any mischievous minion can agree—this mask is pretty impressive! You can’t blame Dorothy and her friends for running away at the sight of these spooky winged henchmen. This deluxe mask is a stunning representation of the flying monkeys from The Wizard of Oz, and it’s a perfect finishing touch to a flying monkey costume. The mask is made of natural rubber latex, and the eye holes and nostril holes make it easy to see and breathe. The mask is mostly blue, save for some white and red coloring on the hat. In addition to the hat construction, the mask is wonderfully shaped to show off some monkey features, a mischievous grin, a pair of ape ears, and a mini-mane of monkey hair. Wicked cool!
So, what’s with the flying monkeys?
You may remember them from the Wizard of Oz movie, but if your child will be sporting a flying monkey costume for Halloween, you should know the story behind these eerie henchmen. In the very first Oz novels, the flying monkeys originally were an intelligent group of winged monkeys who were carefree, if a little mischievous. Unfortunately, at one point they played a prank on the wrong person, and as a result, they fell under the spell of an enchanted Golden Cap. Whoever was in possession of the Golden Cap had control over the winged monkeys, and the possessor had the power to command the monkeys three times. (So, if your child misbehaves while wearing his flying monkey costume this Halloween, remind him that you have the Golden Cap hidden somewhere). Eventually, the Wicked Witch of the West got her hands on the Golden Cap, and after becoming more powerful (thanks to her commands) she used her third and final command to force her unwilling henchmen to capture Dorothy and her friends.
Of course, the story ultimately has a happy ending; when the dust is settled, Glinda (the good witch) is in possession of the enchanted cap, and after helping Dorothy and her friends find their homes, she gives the cap to the flying monkeys, thus freeing them from the spell. So there’s more to your kid’s flying monkey costume than pranks and mischief, but this Halloween, it’s all about fun, games, and great candy. Happy flying, and happy Halloween!
